Sessions are led by Brian Stewart, author of Barron’s ACT/SAT/PSAT prep books and president of BWS Education Consulting.

 

About the Workshop Series

  • Free and open to the public
  • No library card required to register or attend
  • 11 total sessions; attend any or all
  • Live virtual sessions held on Zoom
  • Each session runs from 6–7 p.m. Eastern Time

Each workshop focuses on key SAT topics, including reading strategies, grammar essentials, and math skills such as using Desmos.

  • Wednesday, January 7 (6–7 p.m. ET): SAT Introduction
    Overview of general SAT strategies, how colleges use the test in admissions, and similarities and differences between the SAT and ACT.
  • Wednesday, January 14 (6–7 p.m. ET): Reading Central Ideas and Details
    Strategies for Central Idea, Detail, Evidence, and Inference questions.
  • Wednesday, January 21 (6–7 p.m. ET): Reading Craft and Structure
    Resources for building Vocabulary, strategies for Purpose and Text 1 & Text 2 questions.
  • Wednesday, January 28 (6–7 p.m. ET): Writing Expression of Ideas
    Understanding transition words and techniques for Rhetorical Synthesis questions.
  • Wednesday, February 4 (6–7 p.m. ET): Writing Boundaries
    Thorough discussion of commas, semicolons, colons, dashes, and apostrophes.
  • Wednesday, February 11 (6–7 p.m. ET): Writing Form, Structure, and Sense
    Conceptual review of misplaced modifiers, subject-verb agreement, and verb tense.
  • Wednesday, February 18 (6–7 p.m. ET): Math Using Desmos
    The most helpful ways to use Desmos to save time and improve accuracy on the SAT Math.
  • Wednesday, February 25 (6–7 p.m. ET): Math Algebra
    Slope-intercept form, systems of linear equations, linear functions, and linear inequalities.
  • Wednesday, March 4 (6–7 p.m. ET): Advanced Math Topics
    Working with equivalent expressions, systems of quadratic equations, and nonlinear functions.
  • Monday, March 9 (6–7 p.m. ET): Math Problem Solving and Data Analysis
    Percentages, unit conversion, measures of center, probability, and statistics.
  • Wednesday, March 11 (6–7 p.m. ET): Math Geometry and Trigonometry
    Area, volume, right triangles, circles, sine, cosine, and tangent.
