Farmington Community Library (FCL) is excited to announce the appointment of Sasha Matthews as the Library’s new Director, effective December 1, 2025.
This appointment follows Library Director Kelley Siegrist’s retirement announcement in June. Siegrist's official retirement date is January 9, 2026. (Read Siegrist’s retirement letter.)
Matthews brings over 15 years of leadership experience in public libraries, most recently serving as Regional Manager for Virginia Beach Public Library, where she oversaw five branches and led strategic planning, facilities operations, and community engagement initiatives.
Matthews holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and a Master of Public Administration from Old Dominion University. Her professional background reflects a deep commitment to innovation, collaboration, and service excellence. She has led large teams, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, and implemented shared-service models that improved customer experience and staff efficiency.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sasha to our community and look forward to the energy, insight, and dedication she will bring to our Library system.”
— Ernie McClellan, Board President
“FCL is innovative and responsive to its community, and I am very excited to be a part of that. I look forward to meeting the team and getting to know the community. I love people, and libraries are about the people they serve and the communities they are in.”
— Sasha Matthews
This leadership transition comes at a dynamic period for the Library filled with exciting possibilities. In April, FCL released its Facilities Masterplan, outlining potential future renovations for both Library buildings. The first phase of renovations is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026. (Learn about the Facilities Masterplan and the 2026 renovations.)
These upcoming improvements build on four years of groundwork led by retiring Library Director Kelley Siegrist, including the development of the 2023–2029 Strategic Plan, a Building Accessibility Audit, and a Space Utilization Study. Together, these efforts shaped the Facilities Masterplan using feedback from community surveys, focus groups, and staff.
