What is this crazy thing called NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month is a yearly international event that takes place the whole month of November. In essence, it’s an excuse to stop making excuses and actually write! Many of us have stories or poems, memoirs or travelogues in our heads that we’ve always meant to write down and just “have never found the time.” In November, you can give yourself permission to make the time by joining thousands of people worldwide – and dozens in your hometown – who are also making the effort to spend time writing this month.
Whether you decide on the traditional challenge (writing 50,000 words of a brand-new novel in those 30 days) or become a NaNo rebel (just write! Poetry, nonfiction, adding to previous work, short stories, whatever) you’re welcome to join us for write-ins or via social media to have fun this November – and write!
No matter if you’re new to this exciting month or a veteran of past NaNo successes, everyone is welcome to join us for support and dedicated writing time.
NaNoWriMo begins at 12:01 am on November 1! Good luck, and we hope to see you at our write-ins!
Write-ins:
Tuesday evenings, 7-8:45 p.m. – FCL Farmington Hills, Nonfiction Quiet Study Room
November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Sunday afternoons, 2-4 p.m. – FCL Farmington, Meeting Room
November 6, 13, 20, 27
Can’t make one of the in-house write-ins? More comfortable in your own writing corner? You can still join in the fun via social media! Join the Farmington Community Library NaNoWriMo Support Group at FCL NaNoWriMo Warriors on Facebook. Here we’ll post random prompts and challenges, call for first lines of the day, and rally encouragement. You can also post questions, ideas, and make conversation with other NaNo warriors.
