Teen Winter Reading Program
Jan. 4-March 28, 2010

Teens 6th-12th grade are invited to participate in our first Winter Reading Program. Teens read or listen to books of their choosing, log their titles and win prizes along the way. To register go to the Teen Winter Reading Program Page

 

Teen Creative Writing Competition

The Library is presenting its annual creative writing competition for teens, 6th-12th grade, in the Farmington/Farmington Hills area. Categories include prose and poetry in two age divisions: 11-14 and 15-19. There will be prizes for winners in each category and age division. Visit the Teen Creative Writing Competition web page for details and entry form. Submissions for this contest will be accepted beginning Monday, September 28, 2009 - Friday, January 29, 2010, 6:00 p.m.

   

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a program designed to encourage reading and give recognition to readers. Participating teens form teams, read from a selected list of books, and then compete with other teams by answering questions based on the books. The program begins on Friday, January 29, when the books will be available to students at schools and at either Library. Forms and instructions on the event are available at local middle schools and in the teen areas of either branch of the Farmington Community Library. The Semi-Final Round will be held in the schools on Thursday, March 25 and the Final Round will be held at the Costick Center on Monday, April 19, 7 p.m. For more info visit the Battle pages.

 

Teen Mystery Lock-In

Downtown Farmington Library: Friday, March 19, 6:45-9:00 p.m.
Heavy Metal Kidnapping for Grades 6-12 - Who kidnapped two children and demanded millions from their wealthy parents? Join your fellow detectives at the Farmington Branch in solving the mystery, Heavy Metal Kidnapping. You must accomplish nine tasks and carefully investigate six clues in order to rescue the children and capture the kidnapper. Please arrive at 6:45 p.m. Mystery will start promptly at 7 p.m. Any detective not here by 7 p.m. will be unable to enter the building.
Registration required by March 15, 9 p.m.

 

Teen Gaming @ the Main Library

Main Library Auditorium: Thursday, April 8, 2-4 p.m.
Spend an afternoon playing with our Playstation 2 and Wii systems. We will provide snacks and board games to play while you wait your turn, or you can bring your own handheld system to pass the time. Registration is required by Monday, April 5.
