Summer Reading FAQ

Q: How do I register for the Adult Summer Reading program?

A: That depends on how you want to play. If you’d like to read and review, you must sign up first. You can do so by clicking here: If you need help, please call or stop in at the desk anytime and staff will walk you through or take your registration for you. If you want to play the paper game, you can register first, or simply register once you turn in your paper game.

Q: How do I submit a review?

A: First, make sure you’ve signed up via our sign-up page here. Then, click here to submit a review.

Q: Can I see the reviews I’ve already written?

A: Yes! Each time you submit a review, you receive a confirmation e-mail to the address you supply.

Q: Can I change my reviews I’ve submitted?

A: Yes! You’ll be able to edit your responses to the form. There are two ways to do this: from your email confirmation or on the form submission confirmation page. If you are having trouble, please don’t hesitate to contact staff for help.

Q: Are there other ways to participate in Summer Reading?

A: Absolutely! You don’t just have to read and review books to play, or read and review at all if you don’t want to. You also have the option to play our paper game which you can pick up at any of our Information Desks or print out here:Escape the Ordinary! Handout

Q: Can I only pick one or the other?

A: No! You are welcome to play however you want! Maybe you want to play the paper game and catch the villains, maybe you want to read and review, or maybe you want to do BOTH! (Hint, doing both earns you WAY more shots at our prize drawings *wink wink* )

Q: How do I earn a chance at the prize drawings?

A: Each review you submit online and each villain you “capture” through our paper game will earn you one entry. You must turn in your paper game for those entries to qualify.

Q: Do I have to complete the entire paper game to qualify for entries?

A: No way! Do as many or as few as you like and turn it in whenever you want. Finish the whole sheet but want to keep going? Go for it! You can grab or print out another sheet and fill that out as well. Completing one requirement multiple times on one sheet will not count as multiple entries, requirements are counted only once per sheet.

Q: Where can I see reviews submitted by other patrons?

A: Anybody who has given us permission to use their reviews can look for them here: http://farmingtonlibrary.tumblr.com/tagged/book-review

Q: How do I complete a mission?

A: It’s easy! Simply pick which mission you’d like to complete by capturing the villain and do it! When you’ve completed it, mark it off however you see fit and that’s that! Some people like to make a note about which book they read or movie they watched, but you don’t have to, simply crossing it off or putting an “x” or “captured!” next to each completed mission is sufficient. When you turn in your sheet, staff will look to see which villains have completed missions next to them and tally your entries.
