Detroit Area Agency on Aging (Region 1-A) Detroit ElderNet

This Web site is a user friendly, aging-focused Web site designed to foster communications, information-sharing and improved access to services for older adults, caregivers and community agencies serving the elderly within the Detroit Empowerment Zone and the Greater Detroit area.

The mission of Detroit Eldernet is to help Detroit Empowerment Zone residents and the larger community to use computers and advanced technology to access services, to stay informed about upcoming aging issues, trends and events; to link to local, state and national Web sites, and to communicate through a list.serve as well as existing forums and chats.

Detroit Eldernet is sponsored by the Detroit Area Agency on Aging in cooperation with Detroit Public Library and United Way Community Services. It is hosted on Michigan Comnet. The Web site, which boasts a searchable aging database, calendar of events, list.serve and more, is funded through the Detroit Empowerment Zone and the Detroit Area Agency on Aging under the Family Elder Network's Senior Information System Project.

  

Area Agency on Aging (Region 1-B) Area Agency on Aging 1-B

Serves:  Persons age 60 and older, residing in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties.

The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is a non profit organization that is responsible for services to the more than 430,000 persons age 60 and older, residing in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties.

Through the provision of home care and community-based services, older adults are given options which can help maintain their health and independence in their homes and communities.

The national Older Americans Act created a network of agencies at the federal, state and local level to assure that services are provided which enable older adults to live independently in their homes. The Area Agency on Aging 1-B, established in 1974, is part of this national network.

Area Agency on Aging (Region 1-C) Area Agency on Aging 1-C

Serves:  34 communities of Western and Southern Wayne County>

The Senior Alliance (TSA) is a private non-profit agency that was established in 1980, and designated by the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging to operate as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for the 34 suburban communities South and West of the City of Detroit. In 1998, the Michigan Department of Community Health authorized the agency to operate as an Organized Health Care Delivery System. This new designation allowed the agency to expand services to qualified disabled individuals. Serving older adults, however, continues to be main focus of the agency.

The 34 communities served by TSA are jointly known as Planning and Service Area (PSA) 1-C in Michigan. Currently there are 16 AAAs in Michigan, and over 660 nationwide. Each AAA is responsible for administering a network of community and in-home services for older persons within their assigned PSAs.

With 168,880 persons age 60 and over (1990 Census) residing in Southern and Western Wayne County, TSA serves the third largest senior population in Michigan.
