Beyond Our Walls

The Farmington Community Library is committed to reaching out to our community beyond the walls of the Library's Branches. In addition to our Web site, which is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, Library staff are dedicated to meeting the information needs of underserved or inadequately served target groups, such as disabled homebound, senior citizens in independent/ assisted living and nursing homes, as well as children and their caregivers, by targeting child care facilities, preschools, classes in public or private schools, community centers, residential care facilities, or local businesses or organizations also engaged in services to youth

For Children and Their Caregivers

Some outreach services currently offered by the Children's Staff include:
  • Outreach visits to support literacy or promote library programs and services
  • Library tours
  • Deposit collections for child care and preschool facilities
  • Busy Bee Bulletin newsletter for early childhood professionals
  • Themed materials reserved for use by child care and preschool facilities
  • Material selection to supplement elementary or preschool lesson plans

For Seniors / Older Adults / Homebound Persons

The Farmington Community Library provides outreach services to older adults at more than twenty five senior residences, including independent living, assisted living, continuing care units and homebound residents. These services include book and other media delivery, monthly book clubs, cultural programs, Book Buddy visits and computer classes. Residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills who are no longer able to travel to the Library, can enjoy Library services by having library services visit them. Low Vision Services

The Farmington Community Library provides a wide array of services to assist persons with visual impairments.

Public Spaces at the Library

The Library offers the following Public Spaces:

  • Free Internet and Wireless Access: The Library offers 150 public computers, some equipped with Web Eyes, Jaws, and ZoomText software for the visually impaired, for Library card holders or guests. Users may also employ their own wireless laptops or plug laptops into our study tables to make use of internet access.
  • Meeting Rooms: The Farmington Community Library rents meeting space to community organizations, groups and businesses in the Farmington and Farmington Hills.
  • Study Rooms: Study rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Café: The Goodnight Moon Café at the Main Library offers a variety of refreshments for purchase during your Library visit.
  • For Children: Smart Start Center (Main Library) is designed for interactive reading readiness activities and tree house for toddlers (Farmington Branch). Puzzles, puppets and other activities are available.
  • Casual Reading: Leisurely reading areas near a cozy fireplace are available at each Branch.
  • Friends of the Library Used Book Sale: Visit the ongoing book sale and special sales throughout the year at each Branch.
