BBC Languages

BBC Languages supports a variety of languages, including English, through video clips, audio and exercises.

Livemocha

Livemocha offers lessons and support for 10 languages in a social networking environment. Lessons are structured with grammar, reading, listening and comprehension sections.

Word2Word Languages

Word2Word Language Resources offers a comprehensive list of language-related offerings, including an online forum (free login / password required) and language software. The Free Online Language Courses section is a compilation of sites for over 110 languages.

This is a great guide to languages on the Web, with more than 2,400 links.

Language Links

The home page provides multiple links to Web sites for learning languages and cultures.

Meetup.com

A way to find local language groups in the area. Type "language" into the "Find Meetup Groups" search bar and a listing of local language groups will appear.

Omniglot

This site contains details of most alphabets and other writing systems currently in use, as well as quite a few ancient and invented ones. It also includes information about some of the languages written with those writing systems, multilingual texts, tips on learning languages, a book store, some useful phrases in many different languages, and an ever-growing collection of links to language-related resources.

Phonetics

This site contains FLASH animated libraries of the phonetic sounds of German, Spanish and English. For each consonant and vowel there is available an animated articulatory diagram, a step-by-step description, and a video-audio file of the sound spoken in context. It is intended for students of phonetics, linguistics, and foreign language.

UniLang Communty

The main purpose of the UniLang Community is to provide an online site where people interested in languages can unite, openly discuss, and find resources related to language(s), linguistics and translations.

FCL International Language Collection

The International Language Collection offers titles in a wide variety of languages for fluent readers.

The World Cinema Collection at the Main Library

World Cinema Collection logoThe World Cinema Collection contains subtitled movies in 35 languages that circulate for one week, no renewals. A portion of the collection is interfiled with other titles in the Foreign Language Film section of our Films on DVD at the Main Library, and is part of a rotating collection shared with other local libraries. Read the World Cinema Collection FAQs, or browse a complete listing of titles (Please note that the library location for titles is subject to change as the collection rotates among the participating libraries). Ask at the Information Desk for more details.

Audiobooks—On CD and Cassette.
Farsi, French, German, Lithuanian and many other languages are available, starting at 428.2.

Books—Dictionaries, 501 Verbs titles, travel phrase books, and language learners with audio support are available in numerous languages including Spanish, Italian, Latin and Russian, beginning at 428.2.

TumbleBooks Collection

TumbleBook logo Over 200 full-color picture books online, with sentences highlighted as text is read. In addition to English language titles, numerous French and Spanish language stories are available. Chinese, Russian and Italian stories are also offered.
