BBC Languages

BBC Languages supports a variety of languages, including English, through video clips, audio and exercises.

LiveMocha

Live Mocha offers lessons and support for 10 languages in a social networking environment. Lessons are structured with grammar, reading, listening and comprehension sections.

Word2Word Languages

Word2Word Language Resources offers a comprehensive list of language resources available on the Web. The Free Online Language Courses section compiles a list of sites for over 110 languages.

Meetup.com

A way to find local language groups in the area. Type "language" into the "Find Meetup Groups" search bar and a listing of local language groups will appear.

Omniglot

This site contains details of most alphabets and other writing systems currently in use, as well as quite a few ancient and invented ones. It also includes information about some of the languages written with those writing systems, multilingual texts, tips on learning languages, a book store, some useful phrases in many different languages, and a ever-growing collection of links to language-related resources.

Phonetics

A University of Iowa project. This site contains animations of the phonetic sounds of English, German and Spanish.

UniLang Communty

The main purpose of the UniLang Community is to provide an online site where people interested in languages can unite, openly discuss, and find resources related to language(s), linguistics and translations.

FCL International Language Collection

The International Language Collection offers titles in foreign languages for fluent readers.

The World Cinema Collection at the Main Library

World Cinema Collection logoThe World Cinema Collection contains subtitled movies in 35 languages that circulate for one week, no renewals. A portion of the collection is interfiled with other titles in the Foreign Language Film section of our Films on DVD at the Main Library, and is part of a rotating collection shared with other local libraries. Read the World Cinema Collection FAQs, or browse a complete listing of titles (Please note that the library location for titles is subject to change as the collection rotate). Ask at the Information Desk for more details.

The 400's. . . .

Audiobooks—On CD and Cassette Farsi, French, German, Lithuanian and many other languages are available, starting at 428.2.

Books—Dictionaries, 501 Verbs titles, travel phrase books, and language learners with audio support are available in numerous languages including Spanish, Italian, Latin and Russian, beginning at 428.2.

eBooks logo Offered online through NetLibrary, the PimsleurLanguage Program is available in downloadable audiobook format and offers over forty languages.


TumbleBooks Collection

TumbleBook logo Over 200 full-color picture books online, with sentences highlighted as text is read. In additional to English language titles, numerous French and Spanish language stories are available. Also available are some titles in Chinese, Russian and Italian.
