- Main Library: Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. in Conference Room A on the Mezzanine.(No registration is required.)
- Farmington Library: Fridays at 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room.(No registration is required.)
Tours and Facilities
The Farmington Community Library gives tours to classes and community organizations that serve English as a Second Language students and Adult New Readers.
Topics covered in the presentations and Library tours generally include: Using the Library, Getting a Library Card, our ESL Collection, and Introduction to Library Materials and Services.
Call the Main Library at (248) 553•0300 to arrange for a tour. Tutoring rooms are available during Library hours, and are located in Adult Services at the Main Library.

Test of English As A Foreign Language Services |

English as a 2nd Language provides language courses and programs for individuals learning English as a Second Language. |

The English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University specializes exclusively in teaching English communication, cultural orientation, and academic preparation skills to non-native speakers of English from all over the world. Call for registration times and fees.

International Institute |
The Institute serves people who have just arrived in America or Metro Detroit. The Institute offers: English Language classes, citizenship classes, counseling, job counseling, translators and interpreters, consultations and referrals on ethnic matters and international language classes. |

MTELP |
The MTELP is administered by OCC to students whose primary language is not English. The test ensures accurate placement for college classes. Click on the Web site for information about the test and further information. |

Oakland Community College ESL |
English as a Second Language courses are offered at four OCC campuses: Royal Oak, Southfield, Auburn Hills and Farmington Hills (Orchard Ridge). These courses help prepare students to be successful in other academic courses. |

Oakland Literacy Council |
The Oakland Literacy Council offers free tutoring to students and adults in Oakland County. Weekly tutoring sessions are offered to teach reading, writing, spelling, and conversational English. |

TOEFL Preparation Workshops |
The Test Preparation Workshop includes 8 sessions - 24 hours of classroom time. The Workshop also includes a textbook, audio cassette and CD-ROM with practice tests. Call for registration times and fees. Schoolcraft also offers spoken academic communication classes. |

The English Language Institute was established in 1941 as the first English language research and teaching program of its kind in the United States. U.S. Citizenship & Immgration Services Study Materials for the Naturalization Test. |
During your naturalization eligibility interview, a USCIS officer will test your ability to read, write, and speak English (unless you are exempt from the English requirements). You will also be given a civics test in English (to test your knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government) unless you are exempt. Even if exempt from the English test, you will need to take the civics test unless you qualify for a waiver. You may also be eligible to take the civics test in your native language with the assistance of an interpreter if you qualify. |
