American Board of Medical Specialists

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is the umbrella organization for the 24 approved medical specialty boards in the United States. Established in 1933, the ABMS serves to coordinate the activities of its Member Boards and to provide information to the public, the government, the profession and its Members concerning issues involving specialization and certification in medicine. Requires free registration to utilize site features. Their Who's Certified? allows you to verify the board certification status of any physician.

American Hospital Directory

Provides data for over 6,000 hospitals.The Free Search, available to non-subscribers, will locate Name and address, telephone, Medicare provider number, total staffed beds, hospital type, services provided and link to the hospital's web site. (detailed information is available to subscribers only).

America's Best Hospitals (U.S. News & World Report)

"Let’s take care of the patient." That must be the credo of hospitals that make U.S. News’ "Best Hospitals" rankings, in which hospitals are judged not in routine procedures but in difficult cases across an entire specialty. In the nineteenth year of this annual review, hospitals are ranked in 16 specialties, from cancer and heart disease to respiratory disorders and urology. Out of the 5,453 hospitals put through a rigorous statistical mill, only 170 scored high enough to appear in any of the specialty rankings.

America's Best Children's Hospitals<

This U.S. News &' World Report ranks children's hospitals in the U.S. with respect to various health conditions. View lists of hospitals for general pediatrics, cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery, neonatal care, neurology and neurosurgery, and respiratory disorders. AMA Physician Select

The American Medical Association provides information on nearly 700,000 practitioners with the degrees of MD and DO. It will be necessary to click on the I Accept icon before searching by physician or medical specialty.

Compare Hospitals in SE Michigan

The Greater Detroit Area Health Council has teamed up with WebMD to provide a 7-county Health Care Performance Report version similar to Medscape/WebMD's other national tools and the CMS Hospital Compare tool. Covers heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical infection prevention, Medicare mortality (survival rate) for heart attack, CABG and PCI, some safety measures, and volume. Federation Physician Data Center (FPDC)

The Federation Physician Data Center is a central repository for formal actions taken against physicians by state licensing and disciplinary boards, Canadian licensing authorities, the U.S. armed forces, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and other national and international regulatory bodies. The Federation Physician Data Center offers two services used in performing credentialing functions or pre-employment background checks: the Board Action Data Search and the Disciplinary Alert Service. Both of these services are considered primary source equivalent by NCQA and JCAHO.

The Federation Physician Data Center contains more than 156,000 board actions related to approximately 46,000 physicians dating to the 1960s. This information is available to licensing and disciplinary boards, the military, governmental and private agencies and organizations involved in the employment and/or credentialing of physicians.
