ArtServe Michigan supports and advocates arts and culture by working with artists, educators, cultural organizations, businesses, volunteers and others through statewide programs, services and a variety of collaborative efforts. This group merged in early 1997, bringing together the Arts Foundation of Michigan, Business Volunteers for the Arts, Concerned Citizens for the Arts in Michigan and the Michigan Alliance for Arts Education.
The Council of Michigan Foundations is a nonprofit membership association composed of private, community and corporate foundation and giving programs in Michigan. Their mission is to enhance and increase philanthropy in the state. The Council offers workshops and technical information to grant makers and individuals that want to establish foundations. As of February 1995, the largest regional association of grant makers.
Grantsmanship Center, The (TGCI)
TGCI was founded in 1972 to offer grantsmanship training, proposal writing and low-cost publications to nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Today, it is a leading provider of grantsmanship training, conducting some 200 workshops annually.
Many Michigan Foundations have adopted a common application form for grant seekers to use when applying for funding. Check the Council of Michigan Foundation Web site for the form and a list of foundations requiring it.
A great source of information on Michigan Community Foundations, this is part of a cooperative publicity campaign to remind the public of one of the best-kept secrets around, community foundations.
The Council administers state-run arts and cultural grant program. Includes a link to the Michigan Art Fair Directory.
Michigan Dept. of the Attorney General
Requirements for Michigan charitable organizations (includes FAQs and forms), from the Attorney General's office. The Charitable Trust Section functions for Michigan citizens as a repository of financial and other information about charities they may want to support. At any one time there are more than 3,000 charities licensed by the Attorney General's Charitable Trust Section. Most charities soliciting contributions in Michigan are required to be licensed by the Charitable Trust Section.

The Council supports a variety of public humanities programs and offers grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to nonprofit organizations through Michigan.
The Michigan League for Human Services is a source for information and technical assistance for nonprofit organizations.
Statewide membership organization devoted to promoting awareness and effectiveness of Michigan's nonprofit sector and to advance the cause of volunteerism and philanthropy. The Michigan Nonprofit Association co-sponsors the annual Grantmakers/Grantseekers conference with the Council of Michigan Foundations.
MSAE is a not-for-profit membership organization of individuals who serve other not-for-profit membership organizations in various management specialties.
The Nonprofit Enterprise at Work offers technical assistance for fund raising, proposal writing, volunteer recruitment, consultation, training and educational programs. A nonprofit reference library is located in the NEW Center, which offers a specialized collection of books, periodicals, manuals and a grantseeker's database focused on nonprofits.
The United Way is a human-service organization that offers help in proposal writing, volunteer recruitment, community and media relations, training, accounting, and community forums.
