Friends Gala 2013
The annual gathering of the Friends of the Farmington Community Library – a gala event that celebrates the past year’s accomplishments - took place on Friday, June 7, at 7 p.m., at the Main Library, 32737 West 12 Mile Road, in Farmington Hills.
The program began with a short business meeting, followed by light refreshments. The Moanin’ Frogs, saxophone sextet from the University of Michigan, provided the evening’s entertainment - music from the 1910s and '20s (fox trots, rags, character pieces, and waltzes) along with a comedy routine that reflected the entertainment style of those times. The Friends were very enthusiastic in their appreciation of the young musicians’ performance. The evening ended on a high note with a standing ovation.
The Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization - with more than 1,000 members, promotes literacy by strengthening and enlarging the scope of Library services and resources available to the Farmington / Farmington Hills Community. During 2012-2013, the Friends, through a combination of dues and fundraising efforts donated more than $85,000 to the Library for a wide variety of resources and services (books, eBooks, children’s DVDs and Library publications) . The Friends also sponsor special programs for children, teens and adults throughout the year, including Battle of the Books, the Summer Reading Club, the Seniors Story Tellers programs, visits by popular authors and much more.
Gala attendance is by invitation only, one of several benefits of being a friend. If you are already a Friend and have not attended a gala – you have missed out on an enjoyable event. Members are mailed and invitation in May – along with membership renewal reminders.
