Welcome!

We are the Farmington Friends of the Library! 1,300 plus people like you who love to read and learn and then pass that love along to others.

From the welcoming face of the book-juggling mime balanced on the tightrope just inside our 12 Mile Road location to the hearth side reading space by the fireplace in our Farmington branch, you’ll see evidence of the Friends’ efforts in action throughout the Library.

Our Mission

Friends actively work to strengthen the Farmington Community Library by advocating and seeking funding to help the Library meet its goals of promoting literacy, providing an educational environment, fostering life-long learning and recreation for adults, and promoting access to information through the use of technology.

Friends News

The Farmington Friends of the Library approved over $84,000 in commitments to Library services through June 2013:

  • Library staff used those 2012 funds to purchase DVDs, books, reference materials such as Online Consumer Reports, movie licensing for more events, and technology needed to expand e-book offerings in the future.
  • The Friends again focused on funding library initiatives for students such as the popular summer reading program (with 900 participants!) and Battle of the Books. In addition, we supported reading incentive programs in Farmington schools, providing funds for ‘One School, One Book’ and ‘Book Parade’.
  • The Friends also make author visits possible, such as the ‘On Becoming a Writer’ program with bestselling author Thrity Umrigar (The highly successful program brought in over 200 people from the community in April 2013).

About Us

Funds raised through membership dues and used book sales help the Farmington Friends of the Library give the gift of reading to our community every day. The Friends also receive a small portion of every purchase you make through our Amazon link.

Library staff use these funds to add books, CDs, DVDs, Playaways and Video Games to supplement the Library's planned purchases. The Friends also sponsor children's reading programs, support student programs, and host special programs and events for all ages throughout the year. Check the current Info Exchange on our website, or the Friends' Projects page for a complete listing of sponsored events.

The Friends have approved 109,464 to Library services in 2013 to fund:

  • Special Programs for Children and Teens: Battle of the Books, Summer Reading Club, Senior Story Tellers Program, Author Visit, Dr. Seuss' Birthday Party and National Book Week Theatrical Productions . . . along with many other programs
  • Funding support for the Book, DVD and Books on CD Collections for both Adult and Children at both Library buildings
  • And additional miscellaneous Library gifts.

and there will be more, with your help!

We welcome your support—please Join or Renew your Membership by filling out this convenient, online form.

Libraries need Friends and the "Friends" need you!

As a Friends member, you'll help to shape the future of learning and living in our community, because it's our goal to make new programs a reality at both the Farmington and Farmington Hills branches.

Did you know that 1,500 plus persons in our Community are Friends?

We welcome your support!

We embrace the challenge of the future by helping implement new technologies and programs that go beyond the library's day-to-day activities—programs that may not currently be supported by State or community funds.

The Friends have been instrumental in initiating services that our visitors now take for granted—Internet access from the library, a circulating collection of DVDs, CDs, and Mp3s, and digitization project with online access via our Web site of the Farmington Observer among them.

Join Us!

Every gift is appreciated, and there are several categories of annual membership to choose from, as shown below:

Farmington Friends of the Library

c/o 32737 West 12 Mile Road

Farmington Hills, MI 48334

Every contribution helps us fund more book and DVD purchases than the Library's budget allows. The larger the contribution, the greater our chances are for adding events and programs for all ages. There's something interesting happening at the Farmington or Farmington Hills branch nearly every day—help us keep that going!
