Farmington Players
The
Farmington Players,
founded in 1953, is a community theater
organization where fun and friendship combine to create quality theater. We
began modestly in an old dairy barn on Twelve Mile Road in Farmington
Hills. That building is gone now, making way for a new facility with handicap
accessibility, a larger stage with wings, air conditioning and more space
to grow. We produce a four-show season each year with a mixture of comedy,
drama and musicals. We hope to include children's theater and expanded
workshops in the new building.
Our
members come
from a wide variety of backgrounds, but with one purpose-to learn and
enjoy the theater arts and the camaraderie they provide. Members have
the opportunity to perform on stage in roles that require acting, comic
timing, singing, dancing and, occasionally, fighting and swordplay. Backstage
roles include set construction and dressing, costumes, props, lights and
sound. More seasoned members can move on to instructive and leadership
roles as directors, producers and board members, or the more advanced
theater arts of set and light design.
Monthly
membership meetings
take place on the third Saturday of each month that does not have a performance.
Meetings include news of the organization and an educational workshop,
perhaps a one-act play, dramatic reading or technical presentation. In
addition to voting privileges at the meetings, each member receives the
monthly newsletter,a ticket to each performance and other perks.
