The Farmington Community Library gives tours to classes and community organizations that serve English as a Second Language students and Adult New Readers.

Topics covered in the presentations and Library tours generally include: Using the Library, Getting a Library Card, and Introduction to Library materials and services.

Call the Main Library at (248) 553•0300 to arrange for a tour. Tutoring rooms are available during Library hours, and are located in Adult Services at the Main Library

The Library receives a free bulletin from Education Testing Services that includes TOEFL registration and test centers in the U.S.

English as a 2d Language provides language courses and programs for individuals learning English as a Second Language.

The English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University specializes exclusively in teaching English communication, cultural orientation, and academic preparation skills to non-native speakers of English from all over the world. Call for registration times and fee.

Farmington Adult and Community Education offers daytime and evening classes free-of-charge in Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language.

Adult Basic Education classes offer assistance in the areas of math, language and reading. English as a Second Language classes offer a full range of topics including preparation for the TOEFL Exam.

The Institute serves people who have just arrived in America or Metro Detroit. The Institute offers: English Language classes, citizenship classes, counseling, job counseling, translators and interpreters, consultations and referrals on ethnic matters and foreign language classes.

The MTELP is administered by OCC to students whose primary language is not English. The test ensures accurate placement for college classes. Click on the Web site for information about the test which includes a sample test.

The Oakland Literacy Council offers free tutoring to students and adults in Oakland County. Weekly tutoring sessions are offered to teach reading, writing, spelling, and conversational English.

The Test Preparation Workshop includes 8 sessions - 24 hours of classroom time. The Workshop also includes a textbook, audio cassette and CD-ROM with practice tests. Call for registration times and fee.
