Country ResearchPublished by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, this online equivalent contains economic, social, and political country profiles of countries. Included are maps and cultural information for international business. A high-profile link from many meta-sites. This website, from the Library of Congress, contains the on-line versions of books previously published in hard copy by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Army. Because the original intent of the Series' sponsor was to focus primarily on lesser known areas of the world or regions in which U.S. forces might be deployed, the series is not all-inclusive. At present, 101 countries and regions are covered. Notable omissions include Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and other Western nations, as well as a number of African nations. The date of information for each country appears on the title page of each country and at the end of each section of text. Taking a look at the Main Site FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) first will save valuable time. The site provides a list of foreign embassies, businesses and trade organizations. The site's Business Directories section allows companies serving the international community, and those working, living, and traveling internationally, to find their audience.

The International Data Base (IDB) is a computerized data bank provided by the U. S. Census Bureau containing statistical tables of demographic, and socio-economic data for 227 countries and areas of the world. International Business & Technology: World Level A meta-site from ?brint.com that provides access to global business, communication, import-export, linguistic, legal, marketing, media, monetary, public affairs, research, technology, trade, and travel information resources. Sites are concentrated in trade, technology, maps, and international phone and business directories, but this page also provides links to commonly-sought information about countries such as national flags, weather, and news feeds. The International Franchise Association (IFA), founded in 1960, is a membership organization of franchisers, franchisees and suppliers. The Web site is dedicated to providing a one-stop shopping experience for franchise information. InfoNation is an easy-to-use, two-step database that allows you to view and compare the most up-to-date statistical data for the Member States of the United Nations. First, you can choose between a basic or advanced version of InfoNation. In the basic InfoNation you can choose up to six countries from an alphabetical list of all countries. In the advanced version you can choose up to six countries from 57 different country groupings arranged by geographic region, membership in intergovernmental organizations, or socio-economic status. For example, the advanced InfoNation allows you to compare countries that have developing economies, or those that belong to the same intergovernmental organization (e.g., the African Union), or those that are in the same geographic region (e.g., Latin America).
International Chamber of Commerce The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is the world business organization. It links global chamber organizations and committees by country. There are also position papers on current topics in business, such as ethics, marketing, economic policy, etc. Home page of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which includes 29 member countries that share principles of the market economy and produce 2/3 of the world's goods and services. Member governments collect data, monitor trends, analyze and forecast economic developments and also research social changes and trade patterns. Much of the site's content requires a subscription or purchase of individual publications; however, substantial introductory text is available free-of-charge, including frequently-requested statistics, news, and links to official websites of member countries. OFFSTATS: Official Statistics on the Web This site, maintained by the University of Auckland Library, provides links to official organizations around the world that provide "freely and easily accessible" current statistical data (and some time series). Arrangement is by country, region and topic. Statistical sources cover vital statistics, industries, trade, economics, labor, energy, tourism, health, crime, education, social indicators, and more. STRATEGIS: Canada's Business Information Site A wealth of information from Canada's Minister of Industry. Site is in English and French and includes a bilingual search feature. Organized in categories (company, trade and investment, business sector, economic analysis, research, financing, legislation, employment and consumer information), it also includes a news link.

This sit e also includes an online version of the CDC's Yellow Book, published every two years by CDC as a reference for those who advise international travelers of health risks. The Yellow Book is written primarily for health care providers, although others might find it useful. U.S. Dept. of State Travel Warnings & Consular Information Sheets Travel Warnings are issued when the State Department decides, based on all relevant information, to recommend that Americans avoid travel to a certain country. Countries where avoidance of travel is recommended will have Travel Warnings as well as Consular Information Sheets.
